Be careful

Be careful with this app. Users cannot manage renewals or subscriptions themselves—everything has to be requested by email. This puts you at serious risk of being charged repeatedly. That happened to me, and I never received a refund even though I asked not to be on auto-renewal. In the end, reporting it to my bank and changing my credit card was the only solution.

I tried a bunch of other app's before, but they didn’t do much for me. Then I found MakesYouFluent and gave it a shot. From the begining, the way the chats worked showed me this was gonna push me in a new direction. It's not easy, but it's worth it!

No plan.. no structure… soooo BAD

Absolutely awful. Not a learning tool. What a waste of money. I was totally taken in…. Didn’t do enough research. How there is 1 positive review is unbelievable!

I’ve been learning with Duolingo for six years now

I’ve been learning with Duolingo for six years now, and while I can read and understand much more than before, I still can’t speak fluently. I’m fine asking for stuff in shops or at restaurants, no issues there, but having a smooth conversation isn’t something I can do yet. So I quit Duolingo and now I’m trying out Makes You Fluent to see how it goes.

Misleading subscription model and no support. Avoid this service!

I subscribed to Makes You Fluent in June 2024, thinking I was purchasing one-time access to their web platform. At no point was it made clear that I was entering into a recurring annual subscription, nor did I receive any document outlining a billing agreement or contract. Fast forward to June 2025, I was charged $89.99 without any prior email notification or reminder. Had I received even a simple message informing me of the upcoming renewal, I would have cancelled it immediately, especially since I no longer use the service and the product I paid for no longer exists. The original web app was discontinued, and I was forced to download a completely new app, which offers no access to my subscription details, billing info, or cancellation options. It’s as if they deliberately make it hard to cancel… I sent two emails to their support email address requesting a refund and cancellation. I have received no response whatsoever. Strangely enough, the company seems to find time to respond to public reviews, but completely ignores direct emails from their customers. To make matters worse, they claim that subscription information was “shown at checkout” and in the confirmation email. I kept that email, and I can confirm it says nothing about pricing, renewal terms, or any ongoing subscription. Suggesting that customers should remember tiny print from a checkout page a year earlier is simply unreasonable and misleading. This feels like a deliberate business model designed to trap users into automatic renewals without transparency or consent. Avoid this service at all costs. It is dishonest, unresponsive, and disrespectful to paying customers!

I studied German Sprache for more than 3 years in High School, took it as my minor in college, and continued for four years at University. During that time, I spent a month in Vienna at the Universitate von EuropeanStudien. After I graduated, I spent two weeks at Goethe.DE improving my Intermediate German speaking skills. Recently, my family went to Germany and Austria, where I was able to practice my german in real conversations.

I like that the lessons seem like actual talks

I like that the lessons seem like actual talks and not dull excercises, and the AI teacher changes fast when I mess up, making it easy to get better;

MakesYouFluent application is outdated and hard to follow. They enroll people in annual revolving memberships and without a notification they charge yearly. When try to resolve they refuse refunds even if used didn't use the application for months.

Customer service refuses to refund annual membership fee; although user didn't use the application for months MakesYouFluent charged membership for a new year! This was the worst customer service I experienced.

Well, after buying, there are lots of one-time deals. It feels a little strange and pushy with all the ads. Hope it will be useful for my learning journey.

The way we interact with our AI teacher is quite good

The way we interact with our AI teacher is quite good, but I have faced some problems after long sessions of speaking practice. For example, my teacher stops listening, and I have to leave and join again to keep going. Also, my teacher always starts conversations the same way, usually about hobbies. There isn’t an option to save your conversation history, and even if you practice a lot in one day, sometimes the app doesn’t count your daily streak. Overall, I think it’s a strong tool to help improve language skills, but it still needs some improvements.

I enjoy how the lessons are put together, it's really simple to follow and not hard to get around. I’m hoping this helps me learn Spanish. So, if you're like me or need quick cash for any reason give Ondal a shot, I don't think they’ll let you diwn!

No instructions on how to use the app. After several days trying to figure it out. I am trying to cancel.

I just wanted to keep going, but it kept sending me to more stuff you're seling for like 15 mins, which made it kinda slow and not so fun to use.

You will keep getting charged

Signed up for this, however never used it. Got charged again (for 6 months) and on the day of the charge asked to cancel and get refunded. They responded a day later trying to talk me into staying with the service. I responded that I had never used the service and to cancel and refund. They said that I was required to proceed 24 hour notice prior to being charged and no refund would be given.

It's nice to chat with someone. But I had a hard time keeping up. I think I just need more practise. Hopefully, next time, I can do better.

This App is not working properly

I downloaded MakesYourFluent expecting a structured language learning experience, but it was very disappointing. There’s no clear guidance or lesson plan—just a series of small windows with classes at different levels, many of which don’t work properly. For example, the microphone and play buttons often don’t function. I wasn’t given a placement test, so the app automatically placed me at the beginner level. I didn’t pay to start from scratch. The AI tutor asks questions and recognizes what you say, but it doesn’t correct your mistakes at all—so you might as well be speaking to yourself. There’s no explanation of how the app or lessons are supposed to work. You’re left to randomly choose from beginner-level vocabulary with no support or structure. Overall, it’s a confusing and frustrating experience. I strongly recommend avoiding MakesYourFluent unless they offer a proper free trial. I requested a refund will see how the customer service is working. Will defiantly post the result of the refund experience.

I really liked the option to chat with famous characters

I really liked the option to chat with famous characters, the hand-off mode makes it feel so real. I asked a movie character to tell me a story about a black dragon at night, and she shared an amazing tale that lasted about 5 minutes, told with great emotion. I also enjoyed how she switched her speaking style when chatting with me versus when she was telling the story.

Aparte de que solo funciona desde el móvil, la aplicación no responde en muchas de las opciones o se queda dando vueltas sin parar (móvil moderno y buena conexión a Internet). Y se niegan, aduciendo a su política de empresa, a realizar la devolución del importe, a pesar de no haber utilizado por motivos obvios el servicio ni 5 minutos. ¿Cómo se llama el acto de cobrar por un servicio o producto que no funciona?

Avoid

The program is not worth the time and after roping you into a reasonable first time subscription price, the company hits you with a very unreasonable renewal fee. There is communication regarding the excessive fee.

Subscribed to makes you fluent in early April 2025, site started sending me non sensical gibberish. Then the app went dark. Several attempts to get help from customer service failed., Stay away from this app.
